In this article Breastfeeding vs. Formula they discuss about bottle and breast-feeding mothers. This can be a touchy topic for new mothers for a variety of reasons. They quote that “Moms who don’t, or can’t breastfeed are often made to feel like criminals”. Whereas though breast feeding mothers see bottle feeders to be “lazy” and “selfish”. Both sides have strong opinions and reason for the feeding methods they prefer. Breastfeeding mothers focus on the benefits for the child such as; less common illnesses, brain growth, decreased chances of allergies, and so much more. Also breastfeeding is beneficial to the mothers as well. It helps the uterus to go back to normal faster, weight loss, and a decrease in some disease later in life. Mothers who chose to not breastfeed are for obvious reasons such as work, sleep deprivation, and for the simple reason that they do not want to. It is a different story though for mothers who simple cannot. They might have clogged ducts, had surgery done, the baby will not latch, and low milk supply. In this case the mothers might disappointed and upset. I’m sure being in a category of “selfish” upsets them even more.
Personally I am a mother who did chose to breastfed. My main reason was because of the many benefits later in the childs life. When I first started it was very difficult. It was very painful and exhausting, so I do give credit to thoughs who have tired. There were many times I wanted to give up and start supplementing. As I fought through it, it because easier and less painful. At them moments when feeding and bonding with my daughter; was the biggest gift.
I do not critize anyone who simply cannot breastfeed. I do not think because you don't your a bad person. I think bottlefed babies have bonding experiences as well. I would never think a breastfed is any better then a bottlefed baby. I do feel that it is in the best interest for the baby, and everyone should at least try.
